CentOS is a Linux distribution based on and compatible with Red Hat's commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux. If you know your account's current password but are tasked with changing it, you can do so fairly quickly with just a few simple steps.

Use the command to change the password:
# passwd
After successfully entering the command, you should see the following dialog box:
Changing password for user root.
New UNIX password:
Now enter our new password for the user on the Centos 7 operating system:
Retype new UNIX password:
Confirm the new password:
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.
